At the Humane Society of Cambria County, our volunteers are at the core of our team as they assume a variety of roles to assist in providing the best care possible to our animals and the best service possible to our community. As we reflect upon the difference our volunteers have made in the past year, one volunteer, in particular, stood out, completing over 100 hours of service. And, as we look forward to the upcoming year, we wish to grow our volunteer program to make an even bigger impact.

Heidi Lanzendorfer has performed 150 volunteer hours in 2021 walking dogs, taking dogs on foster-for-a-day trips, promoting our adoptable animals out in the community, and more. It was her Pit Bull, Mugzy, that she adopted from the Humane Society of Cambria County in 2014 that inspired her to get involved with our shelter. And, since 2019, she has become a permanent fixture among our shelter family, and has made a huge difference for many animals.

Outside of volunteering at the shelter, Heidi is a licensed cosmetologist. She enjoys gardening, listening to music, appreciating nature, and spending time with her family.

Newly appointed Volunteer Coordinator, Kylie Claycomb, said, “Heidi is one of our most dedicated volunteers. She has a great relationship with all of our dogs, including our long-term, harder to adopt residents. We appreciate her commitment to our shelter and animals!”

Heidi can be seen featured in our new promotional volunteer video. Innovative Tomato donated their time and services to create this original video to assist in growing our current Volunteer Program. Angela Law, an owner of Innovative Tomato and Humane Society of Cambria County Board Member stated, “Innovative Tomato is pleased to help the Humane Society of Cambria County recruit more volunteers. I volunteer, myself, and know how fulfilling it is.”

In just a little over 3 minutes, viewers will get a glimpse of all of the volunteer opportunities available at the shelter. Volunteers can walk dogs, cuddle cats, clean dishes, fold laundry, help with yard maintenance, attend fundraising, adoption, and community events, and so much more! Heidi Lanzendorfer expressed, “I would encourage anyone and everyone to volunteer. As human beings, it is our responsibility to love and care for the animals on Earth.”
